MHFA For Higher Education

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) for Higher Education

The Youth Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) one-day course for Higher Education qualifies you as a Mental Health First Aid Champion.

The course raises awareness around young people’s mental health and gives participants a deeper understanding of the issues that relate to student and staff mental health. You will be given a set of practical skills to spot the early signs of mental ill health and the confidence to signpost someone to support – whether that’s through self-help resources, university counselling services, the NHS, or a mix.

Based on the two day Youth MHFA course, the training courses have been designed specifically with higher education settings in mind. The courses are suitable for teachers, support staff and parents and anyone who works or studies in a university environment.

The MHFA Higher Education course was created in consultation with leading student mental health charity Student Minds. It was piloted in 16 universities and evaluated by the University of Chester.

The Course Covers a Number of Key Topics:

What is mental health?

Depression and Anxiety

Suicide and Psychosis

Self-Harm and Eating Disorders

What will I learn on a one day MHFA HE course?
